1977 & 1979 Prince Albert Raiders Hockey – Team

In May 1977 the Prince Albert Raiders won the Centennial Cup for the first time. To reach the national championship they had captured the Saskatchewan title and won the Abbott Cup, emblematic of the top Tier 2 junior hockey team in Western Canada.

The well‑disciplined Raider team took the Centennial Cup after a four‑game sweep against the Pembroke, Ontario Lumber Kings.

Two years later the Raiders captured the cup again. In a round‑robin format, instead of the traditional best‑of‑seven series between east and west, Prince Albert came up against teams from Guelph, Ontario and Prince Edward Island. In the final game the Raiders scored an overtime victory against the Sherwood Parkdale P.E.I. Metros.

The Prince Albert Raiders of 1977 and 1979 were installed in the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame on Sept. 13, 1980.

Inducted into the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
